Our Chief Feline Officer Fly (if you don’t know Fly, paws your scrolling and hop over to our About Us page) invited her most-trusted friend Dragon to cast the Bat-Catman as we printed the cat batman mask! The cat Batman mask was purr-fectly 3D printed, of course!

The Purrfect Cat Batman Mask

The Batman cat mask was FDM 3D printed with black PLA. PLA is a lightweight, biodegradable thermoplastic was chosen for its ease of printing, eco-friendly properties, and smooth finish. Supports are necessary.

How to smooth out the mask?

Sanding proved effective for deburring and smoothing the uneven surfaces. Due to the circular toolpath movements of the nozzle during printing, the upper sections of the mask exhibited slight layer line roughness, which is a common artifact of 3D printing. To fix this, I sanded the mask’s top surface, eye openings, ear contours, and neckline using 200-grit sandpaper. 200-grit provided an optimal balance of abrasion for removing imperfections while preserving structural integrity, ensuring a comfortable, safe fit for Dragon.

After sanding, I rinsed the mask with water to remove residual sanding dust and any loose particles trapped in crevices. Thorough air-drying followed to prevent moisture retention in the porous PLA material.
